”Tall Boi”, 2019,
Wood fired Porcelain,
4” wide x 2.5” deep x 5.5” tall
About the process:
This original handmade sculpture was fired in the East Creek Anagama as part of an all women firing in early 2019. The East Creek anagama is one of the oldest japanese stye wood kiln on the west coast. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2100 Fahrenheit over the course of five to six days. Tall Boi ended up with a mass of light blue ash, with runnels and a peak of bright color by his legs. All the colors come the clay, the ash, and the flame, with no added glaze or slip.
About the piece:
Tall Boi was very nearly forgotten, but he kept squeaking until someone noticed.
