Image of Illumination

“Illumination”, 2022
Wood fired porcelain and stoneware, magnets, gold luster
27” tall x 14” wide x 10” deep

Important: this piece is part of my solo show "Mythical Worlds" at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, which runs through August 28th. It will not ship until the show is down and I've had time to pack it. It will mostly likely ship in mid September, depending on the complexity of packing it.

Illumination is one of the largest sculptures I've made. This sculpture feels even more important to me in this present murky time. Somewhere, there's a light out there for us.

About the process:
This original handmade sculpture was wood fired in a traditional Japanese-style anagama kiln. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2300 Fahrenheit over the course of five days. The ash coated the piece and melted into a beautiful glaze. I've used different clays for different effects in this piece. The mixed stoneware rock is dotted with porcelain crystals. On the beast, darker stoneware antlers contrast with the porcelanious body. Black slip coats the inside, contrasting with the 14k gold luster of the internal star.

About shipping:
The shipping cost is my estimate for covering shipping and insurance, via UPS. If the cost of shipping is less, I'll refund any extra. I can also delivery it locally, and refund you the whole shipping cost. The beast is removable from the mountain.
For international shipping, the buyer will the responsible for import taxes. I can't presently ship to the UK.

About payments:
Interested in paying in installments? Check my FAQ page, then shoot me an email, and we can make it happen. However, this option only becomes available twenty four hours after my sale starts.
