Wood Fired Porcelains
16” wide x 10” deep x 10” tall

Important: this piece is part of my solo show "Mythical Worlds" at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, which runs through August 28th. It will not ship until the show is down and I've had time to pack it. It will mostly likely ship in mid September, depending on the complexity of packing it.

I'm not sure where the idea for this piece came from, but it whole image appeared nearly fully formed in my mind at once. A disconcerting beast with a flower for a face, appearing to a sleeper. I mused on the idea for month before turning it into a sculpture.

About the process:
This original handmade sculpture was wood fired in a traditional Japanese-style anagama kiln. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2300 Fahrenheit over the course of five days. The ash coated the piece and melted into a beautiful glaze.
This piece collected some of the most extraordinary wood firing effects that I've ever seen. I used a paler porcelain for the flower, but the flame painted each petal with a blush at the base, and grey carbon trapping at the tip. The beast's belly is blushed darker, with heavy grey ash on its back.

About shipping:
The shipping cost is my estimate for covering shipping and insurance, via UPS. If the cost of shipping is less, I'll refund any extra. I can also delivery it locally, and refund you the whole shipping cost.
For international shipping, the buyer will the responsible for import taxes. I can't presently ship to the UK.

About payments:
Interested in paying in installments? Check my FAQ page, then shoot me an email, and we can make it happen. However, this option only becomes available twenty four hours after my sale starts.
