“Sharp Tailed Beast”, 2018
Wood fired porcelains
5.5" long x 2.5" wide x 4.5" tall

About the process:
This original handmade sculpture was woodfired in a traditional Japanese-style anagama kiln. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2200 Fahrenheit over the course of five days. The wood ash settled onto the piece, melting into a beautiful glaze. The teeth are made of an extra pale porcelain that stayed lighter than the body of the beast. All the colors come the clay, the ash, and the flame. This beast was close to the front of the kiln, and collected rivulates of runny green ash, pooling on its belly.

About the piece:
The Sharp Tailed Beast is sharp on both ends. Well, all six ends, if you count its feet, because they're fairly sharp as well. In fact, you probably should count the teeth as well, for they are definitely very sharp, but that's an awful lot to count.
