Blue Spotted Goblin-Eared Beast

A rare, blue beast! This handmade sculpture is the result of stained porcelain, fired with care in an anagama wood kiln in Seabeck Washington. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2300 Fahrenheit over the course of about 100 hours. As the firing goes on, the wood ash settles on the pieces and melts into a ceramic glaze, which interacted with the stained porcelain in dramatic and unpredictable ways. This beast was fired on its side, with the path of the flame revealed in its spots. Its tiny white teeth are made from an extra pure porcelain, staying white and shiny.
