A rare, blue beast! This handmade sculpture is the result of stained porcelain, fired with care in an anagama wood kiln in Seabeck Washington. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2300 Fahrenheit over the course of about 100 hours. As the firing goes on, the wood ash settles on the pieces and melts into a ceramic glaze, which interacted with the stained porcelain in dramatic and unpredictable ways. In this case, it created blue rivulets across the piece. The petal this beasts is cradled in is a different stained clay, with cobalt and iron incorporated in to it.
