"Spotted beast", 2022
Wood fired stained porcelain
5.5" long x 2" wide x 4" tall
About the process:
This original handmade sculpture was wood fired in a traditional Japanese-style anagama kiln. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2300 Fahrenheit over the course of 100 hours. As the firing goes on, the wood ash settles on the pieces and melts into a ceramic glaze. This beast is one where I've experimented by mixing a colored stain into the porcelain. The result is the same wood fire effects, but with the colors tilted into a different spectrum. This beast was fired on its side, with three wads lifting it up off the shelf. As a result, you can see the beautiful path of the flame on its side.
About the piece: The Spotted Beast is a playful and inquisitive creature. It would very much like to know what you are planning on eating for lunch, and is likely to try and steal a bite.
Your beast will be sent out via USPS priority mail by December 7th, safely and securely heading your way. In case of overpayment for international shipping or multiple purchases, I'll refund the extra. Shipments to within the continental United States should arrive before December 25th, assuming the post office cooperates.
If you would like gift wrapping or would like for the receipt to not include the price, let me know, and I can make it happen.
Interested in paying in installments? Shoot me an email, and we can make it happen. However, I can't reserve a piece during a shop launch! If your favorite piece is still available 2 hours after the launch, then we can set something up.
