"Steady Beast", 2020,
Wood fired porcelain and stoneware,
7" long x 2.5" wide x 4" tall

About the process:
This original handmade sculpture was woodfired in a traditional Japanese-style anagama kiln. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2300 Fahrenheit over the course of four days. As the firing goes on, the wood ash settles on the pieces and melts into a ceramic glaze. Normally, all the colors come the clay, the ash, and the flame, with no added glaze or slip.
However, this piece might possibly have an unusual bonus to it. During the firing, the pyrometer - a high tech high temperature thermometer display - fell into the kiln. Almost no trace of it was found when we unloaded. However, several pieces from that section, like this one, featured unusual black spots.

About the piece:
The Steady Beast is one that's truly worth having as a friend. They aren't one for drama, but don't mind validate your feelings if drama comes for you. They're a strong proponent of walks around the block in order to shake it all out, even if it's raining.
