Important: this piece is part of my solo show "Mythical Worlds" at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, which runs through August 28th. It will not ship until the show is down and I've had time to pack it. It will mostly likely ship in mid September, depending on the complexity of packing it.

I love exploring story telling within my work. One oddly reoccurring theme is that the moon is most probably delicious. It hangs there like a little crisp wafer, tauntingly out of reach.
In this piece, three beasts have teamed up to reach the forbidden treat. Whether the smallest one with actually bother to share will be anyone's guess.

About the process:
This original handmade sculpture was wood fired in a traditional Japanese-style anagama kiln. The kiln was fed with wood every five to ten minutes until it reached temperatures of 2300 Fahrenheit over the course of five days. The ash coated the piece and melted into a beautiful glaze.
I used a variety of different clays in this piece. The texture of the coarse stoneware in the middle piece contrasts with the beasts above and below it. The wings are made out of a more delicate porcelain than the rest, showing a paler flash of colors. I fired the moon separately from the beasts, securing it after the firing.
